The Simple Secret to Providing Great Customer Service is Hiring Great People
Simon Sinek, a good friend of mine, and the author of Start with Why; How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, recently posted a statement that really resonated for me.
He stated that “Good customer service is not that hard. Hire people who like people. Support them and encourage them to be themselves”. I love it! So simple, but yet so profound. Hire people who like people. Are you doing that? If not, why not?
Want a hint on how to hire great outgoing people? Why not interview them in a group setting. See how they interact with others. See if they socialize with those sitting around the table. And best of all, get the other people’s first impressions of the candidate by asking them.
Done right, a group interview technique can be a much more effective way to evaluate a candidate’s customer service skills and cultural fit than any conventional interview process. I’ll cover our group interview process in a future posting.
If you’re on Facebook, I suggest that you become a fan of Simon Sinek’s Fan Page. He posts regularly with short bite sized thoughts and idea. Many of them are very thought provoking and will get your wheels spinning.
