The Brick Walls that Stand in Front of Our Dreams
14 May
Achieving dreams and overcoming obstacles in business and life.
Business can be tough at times, especially when you’re in business for yourself, and responsible for leading the ship. How often have you faced obstacles in your company that may have seemed insurmountable at the time? Or how many times are you faced with a challenge that just doesn’t seem fair? We all have. Especially in today’s economy, I’m sure many readers are facing some major challenges right now.
Randy Pausch was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University when he discovered that he had terminal cancer. His famous speech that he gave at the university entitled Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams is absolutely inspirational. In it, he references a saying that he uses many times, “Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things”.
In business, do you ever feel as if you’re up against a brick wall? When you find yourself in a situation like that, do you get discouraged and turn away, or do you fight to get around it? I hope that it’s the latter.
In these tough economic times, if you happen to find yourself in a real tough situation, we have to ask ourselves how badly we want it. Do I want it badly enough to find away through or around this brick wall?” I hope you do.
Of course, whether you are going through a tough time or not, I highly recommend you take the time and watch his speech (it’s about 76 minutes long). It truly is inspirational and may be just what you need to keep pushing forward.
I wish you the best of luck!
Andy
